Cargo handling with textile slings

During lifting and rigging work, such devices as textile slings are used. To date, there are various types of textile slings - two-loop (STP), ring (STK), single-branch (1 ST), two-branch (2 ST), three-branch (3 ST), four-branch (4 ST) slings. Such products are made by sewing together a tape made of synthetic materials.

Textile slings have their own advantages:

  • Durability. Textile sling has a long service life. These products are less subject to deformation and acquire their initial shape in a short period of time.
  • Safety. During work, these slings are the safest, they do not have metal protruding wires, due to which you can get injured.
  • Light weight. Textile slings are light and elastic in comparison with analogues (chain and rope slings). These products take up much less space due to their small size and elasticity.
  • Safety of transported goods. Using textile slings, loads with soft edges are less susceptible to damage.

How to move cargo using tape slings?

When transporting various materials using such slings, the following requirements must be taken into account:

  • slinging systems must be equipped with slings that correspond to the dimensions and weight of the transported cargo. Before using slings, measurements should be taken to calculate the least number of rigging branches and angles of inclination.
  • the loops of the slings must be connected to the hook of the lifting machines. It is necessary to fix the suspension of the sling using the hook latch.
  • to avoid falling when fixing the load, it is necessary to apply slings, avoiding twisting and knots. For loads with sharp edges, it is recommended to use protective covers over the slings or special pads between the sling tape and the load. If the load is irregular in shape, the center of gravity must also be taken into account. The sling should be placed under the load in such a way as to avoid falling. Do not lose sight of the unused parts of the sling during transport. They must be positioned so that when lifting the load, it is possible to avoid the sling hooking on objects that come across on the way.
  • There should also be no sharp edges at the crane hook to avoid damage and deformation of the sling.
  • if, when removing the sling from under the load, it was subject to friction and is damaged, it cannot be used in the future.
